Description: The subject of exposure overwhelms most, yet learning this topic allows your photography to improve by leaps and bounds. Sean’s goal for this class is explain it in a way that makes sense, in a process you can learn from. By the end of the day, you’ll have gained more knowledge about settings, modes, and functions, all helping you to feel more comfortable handling exposure in the field. With cameras in hand and perfect exposures as our goal, we will join commercial photographer and author Sean Arbabi as he shares his special charm and leads us on a visual quest for incredible photographs. Topics will include: shutter speeds and apertures; metering; the concept of middle grey; how your camera meter is fooled; white balance, histogram, and how to battle difficult lighting situations. He will also offer a variety of content in combination with his knowledge and examples of work.
Our workshop will start with a multi-hour lecture, an exposure test and critique (bring 1-2 of your favorite images), then a break for an afternoon snack. After a finishing lecture, we will head into Redwood Regional Park to capture late afternoon light and sunset putting our newfound knowledge to the test. You can bring any camera to this workshop, the best option being a digital camera with manual functions (ideally a DSLR or mirrorless camera), a few lenses, a tripod (optional), a laptop (optional), extra memory cards, and a carrying bag. Please bring comfortable hiking or walking shoes, and a warm jacket and hat.
